DeWALT DWS535 Review

DeWALT DWS535 is a heavy duty worm drive circular saw that gives you what you really deserve when it comes to power and performance.

We have reviewed other DeWALT saws in the past (DEWALT DC390B and DEWALT DW368) and we haven’t been disappointed yet.

This machine is a great fit for professional carpenters and DIY guys who are looking for more challenging projects. You can literally use it 24×7 and it will perform just as good.

The DWS535 comes with a standard 53 degrees bevel capacity. The depth gauge allows you to accurately vary the depth of cut you want to make and is a nice to have when you really want to control your cuts.

One thing we love about DeWalt product line is that just like most products, the DWS535 comes with a three year warranty along with the 90 day guarantee.

Since it is a worm drive saw, it is definitely not as light and portable as you might find in the sidewinder category. However, if the extra power and stability means more to you than portability then it is well worth the investment.

The DeWALT DWS535 comes with a tough design and you don’t really have to sweat breaking it or damaging it easily enough. We did a few drop tests and it still worked just as new without any issues.

In conclusion, if you’re looking for a worm drive saw then the DeWALT DWS535 is our top recommendation and considering the performance it delivers at a price tag of $199 its definitely a great buy.

Skil MAG77LT Review

Skil MAG77LT Review

Skil is one of the few circular saw manufacturers that actually focuses on delivering a really powerful, heavy duty machine. The MAG77LT is the upgraded version of the original 77 and you can definitely feel the design changes that have been made to the saw to make it lighter and goes easy on your wrists when used for long durations.

The MAG77LT has received a collective appreciation from the consumer base of woodworkers and carpenters and once you use it, you’ll see all the reasons why.

Despite being upgraded in terms of design, the saw is still a few pounds heavier than other mainstream saws in its range and this has a lot to do with the sheer power that the motor provides.

The saw features a 53-degree bevel and the magnesium-reinforced lower guard makes it easier to make those tricky cuts and that’s why the saw has MAG in its model name.

The MAG77LT is powered by a light motor when compared to other models in its range and you can definitely feel the difference while working with it. However, do NOT make the mistake of underestimating the power of its motor just because its light.

In conclusion, its a great machine for veterans and beginners alike and the upgrade was definitely a much needed change.

Makita Magnesium 5007MGA Review

Makita Magnesium 5007MGA Review

We recently reviewed the Makita BSS610Z and the Magnesium 5007MGA is around the same ball park. A good option for the new guys but not something that the professionals would go with.

The overall impression of the Magnesium 5007MGA is good and even though it offers a good looking design and all the standard features on the outside, performance wise, it’s not something we would recommend to our readers.

To start with, 5007MGA features a 15.0 AMP motor that delivers 5,800 RPM and even though it meets the standards we felt a little friction and sometimes a kickback while using it on Hardwood. However, it works great on soft wood.

The features a 7-1/4-Inch 24T carbide tipped blade and a “M” shaped tooth design that makes really clean cuts, fast.

The Magnesium 5007MGA is well designed for standard cuts and even plunge and bevel cutting and can be used for framing roofs, floors and walls.

This saw offers a 2.5 inch cutting range when at the default angle and you can change the 56 degrees bevel angle range with stops at 45 and 22.5.

We love how well designed the saw is built for grip and overall comfort while use.

All in all, its a pretty neat circular saw with some performance issues which you’ll feel only if you’re planning to work on large projects and some heavy duty cutting. However, we have other recommendations for the professionals.

Makita BSS610Z Review

Makita BSS610Z

Makita is a pretty mainstream brand name when it comes to circular saws and is definitely one that you should look into while considering to purchase one.

Makita BSS610Z is a cordless circular saw and is a good option if you’re a beginner or you’re looking for an entry level saw.

It is definitely one of the light weight saws and offers good performance for small projects.

Though the saw isn’t build for heavy duty work, its best features are ease-of-use, durability and flexibility of the machine.

Since it is a cordless machine, it runs on a 18V LXT lithium-ion battery which can be fully charged within 30 minutes. Since, it’s not meant for heavy duty jobs, the battery can lost surprisingly longer when compared to other machines in this price range.

The BSS610Z is a sidewinder saw and thus weighs just around 7.1 pounds. The motor is definitely not the best but you can expect north of 3700 rpm which makes it optimum for soft-wood cutting. You can also cut through hard wood but you might face a little bit of resistance.

The saw comes with a dust blower which keeps the saw dust away from you and makes the cutting process healthy.

One feature that we did not expect this saw to have is the LED light that illuminates the cutting line when in use. Moreover, the brakes that come equipped with the BSS610Z are pretty powerful and you can expect the blade to stop as soon as you release the trigger.

In conclusion, Makita BSS610Z is a good option for an entry level circular saw but you really cannot expect to use it on big projects. If you’re just starting out, this is something you’d definitely want to consider.

Festool TS 55 REQ Circular Saw Review

Festool TS 55 REQ

Festool TS 55 REQ is one of the few non-conventional circular saws that you just cannot expect from mainstream brands like DeWalt or Bosch.

Festool is a name that isn’t heard much when it comes to power tools but with that said, it is definitely one of the best designed saws in the market.

We do not throw this word a lot when it comes to power saws but this machine is beautiful.

The TS 55 is built to perform in terms of precision and power. The saw features a 55 inch guide rail and a 48-tooth carbide blade that makes it suitable for any kind of cutting job you have for it.

The TS 55 comes with a lot of features that you might not find your mainstream saws. Some of them would be the built-in splinter guard that allows for precise and clean cuts, the spring-loaded riving knife to keep the kerfs open and prevent kickbacks and the rotating dust port keeps saw dust at bay and makes the cutting process safer and cleaner.

However, all these extra features, beautiful design and the sheer power all packed into one machine come at a cost and that the price tag of $600 is definitely pretty extravagant for a circular saw and thus it is definitely not for the faint of heart.

This machine is built and priced for the professionals or serious wood-workers who want nothing but the best and though it is definitely an expensive tool, the investment is well-justified by the accuracy, visual appeal, safety, comfort, ease of adjustment and dust collection abilities of the machine.

DEWALT DW368 Circular Saw Review

DeWalt is pretty well-known for their circular saws and that fame is justified with all the right reasons.

We recently tested and reviewed the DeWalt DC390B and as a high-range saw, it stood well to our expectations. However, the DeWalt DW368 can be considered as a downgrade from the former.

The DeWalt DW368 features a 15-amp 2,200 MWO motor and a 56-degree bevel capacity and while that is not what a professional would want in his machine, it definitely makes it appealing to hobbyist and DIY enthusiasts.

If you’re looking for something more heavy duty, we’d recommend you to go with either DeWalt DC390B for a cordless saw or Milwaukee 6391-21 if you’re okay with a corded circular saw.

The DW368 comes with a lower guard design that makes it easier to make bevel cuts and work around tricky lines.

The machine is well balanced and lightweight so you can work long hours with it.

In conclusion, the DeWalt DW368 makes a great buy if you’re looking forward to work on small projects and need something that is inexpensive and is easy to operate.

DEWALT DC390B Review

If you’re looking for a cordless circular saw that is both powerful and easy to use then DEWALT DC390B is definitely something you’d want to consider.

DEWALT DC390B isn’t for the faint of heart and can perform really well when it comes to large wood working projects.

The DC390B features a sidewinder design and thus is a pretty lightweight machine (weighing just 6.3 lbs) for the amount of power it delivers.

Ofcourse, the best part about this saw is that it’s cordless so you can move around your space without limits and it literally cuts (pun-intended) the hassle of working around wires.

The DC390B has been designed to be tough on the outside so you really do not have to worry about accidentally dropping and damaging the body or the blade.

An obvious drawback with most cordless circular saws is that they’re operating via battery and since DC390B offers a lot of power when it comes to cutting, you might observe that the battery drains relatively quickly and thus for a full-day job you can expect to use 3-4 sets of batteries.

However, all these features come at a price and that price is $250. This puts the DeWalt DC390B on the premium side of saws. With that said, the price is justified in every aspect.

The machine offers great performance when it comes to cutting, the cordless feature makes sure you’re comfortable while using it and the tough build will make it a good long term investment since you won’t be needing a new saw for years to come.

All in all, if budget is not an issue and you’re looking forward to a lot of projects in the coming year, the DC390B makes for a great investment.

Bosch CS5 Review

Bosch CS5

When it comes to power tools and home appliances, a machine from Bosch is always worth a mention. However, priced at around $150, this mid-range circular saw is definitely worth more than just the brand name.

If you’re a DIY guy and loves to build stuff just for the fun of it then is definitely a good tool to have in your arsenal.

Cs5 features a 7.25 Inch blade and 15 amps of power that enables it to cut through any kind of wood you can get your hands on without a nudge.

The saw is well designed and the blade is placed in a way that makes the cutting-line easily visible. The CS5 also features a 56° bevel angle which allows you to easily cut through tricky curves.

The spindle lock that comes equipped with it makes sure that the blade is safely locked while changing it.

One drawback with the CS5 is its saw dust exhaust and there have been a complaints with it. The exhaust was definitely not designed-well considering the fact that it can blow sawdust at you while you’re working.

However, if a little saw dust on you isn’t an issue and you’re looking for the best machine at the $150 price range then Bosch CS5 is definitely a good option to go with.

Milwaukee 6391-21 Circular Saw Review

If you’re looking for a circular saw that delivers great power, is light weight and does not cost a fortune then the Milwaukee 6391-21 15 Amp 7-1/4-Inch Circular Saw with Blade on Left is a good option to go with.

This saw features a 7 1/4-inch blade and is powered by a 5800 rpm motor with a total of 3 1/4 horsepower that allows you to cut through every kind of wood with sheer ease. Moreover, the motor is comparable to worm drive saws but being a Sidewinder, it is three times lighter.

When it comes to cutting, the 6391-21 is a beast. The Tilt-Lok handle provides a lot of control and flexibility and you can easily cut through curves. The left mount allows for better cut-line visibility and extra-thick aluminium shoe bevels to 50 degrees.

Since the saw comes with a carbide-tipped blade, you can use it for a couple of years without needing a blade replacement.

The Milwaukee 6391-21 comes with a limited warranty and all parts/blade will be replaced free of cost if found to be defective.

One drawback that we noticed is that the electric brakes aren’t as powerful as they’re advertised and it does take a while for the blade to stop rotating.

Despite the drawback, the Milwaukee 6391-21 is one of the best power saws and whether you’re a carpenter or just a hobbyist wood worker, you’ll love what this machine has to offer.

The saw has been pretty well received by its users as you can see on Amazon review section.
